Carbon Neutrality and Green Computing

Ethan Group has introduced an information technology based emissions reduction program for Australian corporations. The program focuses on green technology solutions, providing a unique blueprint for Australian companies interested in reducing carbon emissions ahead of future carbon trading plans to be introduced by the Australia Federal Government.

In August 2007, Ethan Group conducted an Audit of the carbon emissions contribution by ICT in Australia Business for the Australian Computer Society (ACS). The Audit provided the foundation for the ACS to develop their Policy around Carbon Neutrality and begin lobbying the government for change. 

It is not contended that all business should immediately become carbon neutral but rather that a rational coherent process should be undertaken to reduce emissions on a realistic and cost-effective basis. We recommend a commitment to a process which over time dramatically cuts emissions through the careful implementation of technology and an observance of emission reducing upgrade paths at various points along an infrastructure lifecycle.

The program is driven around understanding, monitoring and reducing the carbon outputs of businesses. Most ICT networks have not been designed with emission control in mind and typically ICT draws a significant percentage of the total power a corporation utilises. However, by simple cost effective network refurbishments emissions can be reduced. Moreover, ICT can play a significant role in reducing emissions across other areas of a corporation's infrastructure.

                        IT Strategy and Advisory services

Alignment of ICT strategy with business or developmental goals is a critical exercise that requires the ability to balance the needs of stakeholders with the resources available.  Ethan Group has achieved success in this area by using our own consultants when we ourselves have had to grapple with our own analogous issues as we grew our business at an unprecedented rate.

As a testament to our capability Ethan Group was appointed the Strategic ICT Advisor to Papua New Guinea Government to formulate the newly Adopted National ICT Policy 2007 for the country.
